Yes, it is a proud moment for every Indian. And the victory is just as sweet as the 2001 Kolkota moment. Indians stopped them back then and now in 2007 too, it was the Indians that stopped the Aussies from taking their 17th consecutive Test victory.
It was a victory that you had to be a part of. The morning session where Ishant Sharma was troubling the Aussie captain was something that had to be seen. How the 19 year old tormented Ponting, the No.1 batsman on the ground, throughout the morning was riveting stuff. And how Sehwag pushed Ishant for that one more over would be told for years to come. And the joy in the Indian camp the very next ball as Ponting edged a fine one into the hands of Dravid was a moment that will go into history.
Sachin was the first to tame the pitch in the first innings with a 50, and Dravid hung in there strongly for a marvellous 93. Irfan Pathan proved once again that he is no pushover with a bat in his hand. Sehwag goes on to remind us in the second innings that he has not lost it. And then how can an Aussie victory be complete without the input from VVS Laxman. And how RP Singh stole the show in the partnership with Laxman is another great tale in itself.
RP Singh, Ishant and Irfan made the best out of the furious pitch of Perth. Kumble got the right wickets at the right time. And even Sehwag chipped in with that wicket of Gilchrist...
Aussies are a great team. No two ways about it. They proved that in the way they fought till the end. Even a Mitchell Johnson got the Indian camp nervous as he helps himself to a half century.
But in the end, they were outplayed. Indians got the better of them. Kumble proved to be a captain of high calibre.
